Detoxing by all means is NOT easy.  I like to relate detoxing to exercising. In the beginning it can be very challenging but as you keep doing it, it gets a little easier.

Let’s think back to the time when you first began to exercise. First off, you probably faced the feeling of “not wanting” to go to the gym or even leave your house. In your mind, you played a game of ping pong with the idea of actually going. Then…out of pure mind exhaustion, you made an excuse as to why you can’t go. But then you felt bad about that and somehow you mustered up the courage to go. These were the same exact thoughts that went on in my head when I was getting ready to detox. I pondered and pondered on the thought to begin or not, and then created scenarios in my head as to how difficult it was going to be.

Now let’s move on to the moment when you actually began to start exercising. Your body goes through a period of pain and exhaustion. You struggle through the exercises, but you find the drive within to push yourself through it. And then you get to the best part. Which is the feeling you get once you have completed those exercises. You end up feeling fantastic and experience a sense of achievement. I felt the same uplifting emotions as I went through detox. In the beginning it was such a struggle. The detox symptoms were intense and I had absolutely no energy but I pushed myself to continue. And as each day ended I felt that sense of achievement. I was able to accomplish the goal of eating a low fat plant based diet and was able to keep all the forbidden foods out of my body.

Detoxing like exercise, is not something that will happen overnight. It is also so very different for each person. For example, some people can get in shape a lot faster than others because everyone is starting at a different point. This goes the same for someone who is healing. We all start at different places based on our current health and so the time it takes to detox will all differ as well.

As time passes on and you keep going, the ping pong game you once played in your mind slowly comes to an end. Those crazy thoughts aren’t as intense and quite frankly they don’t happen as often. You also start noticing that a new habit begins to replace those fearful thoughts. And finally you realize that you are now one step closer to your goal AND you have gained some confidence that healing is actually happening.

Again, detoxing can be so very challenging in the beginning but keep pushing through because the feeling of healing at the end is so WORTH it!!!
